I'm a Cowboy Lever Action Silhouette shooter. When I lived in Arizona I could shoot every weekend, but I moved to mid-America and there are far fewer matches here (twice a year!).

I would like to collect club locations, web sites, information on lever action Silhouette matches - Small Bore, Pistol cartridge and long range.

Please note - this is not the same as Cowboy Action shooting, the fastest growing shooting sport.

This is shooting at steel chickens, pigs, turkeys and rams at distances from 40 yards/meters out to 200 with lever rifles from .22 up to 45-70 and larger.

Help me find the matches and I'll share the results with everyone.

I think there are many who would like to know and the "Map" that another web site has is 5 or 6 years out of date.

The Colorado Rifle Club shoots levergun sillouette monthly, and I think the Golden gun club might do so also.
There's also matches at the Whittington Center.

The Cheyenne rifle and pistol club did shoot those matches, not sure if they still do or not. Also wouldn't hurt to check on the Cheyenne Regulators and see if they are still doing that. I think one or maybe both clubs in Casper shot those matches, but I haven't checked for awhile.
The Alliance Rifle Club shoots a monthly levergun match, but it's on swingers and not a regulation sillywet match.
The Pringle gun club did shoot levergun and pistol sillywets every month, but have heard there was a falling out up there, so can't say for sure.

Have you looked at the NRA's competitions webpage?

Yes, I have - have you? It is so far out of date I don't trust it. Steelchickens is further out of date.

At a match yesterday two different people told me about a range/match I had never heard of.

"Official" listings seem to be slow in updating.

No I haven't looked since they announced the official dates of the BPTR matches at Raton.
You may get a little more response from folks if you give them a general location. There are a number of clubs that shoot SASS that also run the levergun sillouette matches on the off weekens. But for the most part there are very few generalized forums like this one that many folks post about the mundane old timey stuff, blackgun crap they go wild over..

I agree - this is the wrong forum to ask this question.

It's that way on most of the general forums.

These types of matches aren't to widely publicized either. But this post has me looking for this in my area. Ive got a 357 mag, 35 Remington and a 308 Win looking for something to do.

Let me know if you have any luck. I'm seeing that some cowboy action clubs are shooting a form of silhouette, this may be the best we'll find in most locations.

If you guys find matches that you can confirm, there's a place to list them here http://historicshooting.com/mybb/forumdisplay.php?fid=5

They started shooting this year in Gonzales, LA. First Sumday of every month at the sheriffs range behind Cabelas. Since the time limits are the same they share the range with the IHMSA shooters.

7tcu - ever see the guys from Red Jacket at that range? I used to work for Cabelas and visited that store... noticed that the Red Jacket shop was not far away.
Thanks for the info.

I only go to that range to shoot IHMSA since it's a decent drive over there but judging by the kind of stuff they're into on the show I doubt they'd get very excited about slow fire with single shot pistols. That the range has very limited hrs to the public.

A while back though I was at a different range and one of those guys (don't know their names, don't watch very often) sat down at the bench next to me. It was a little weird to be shooting away and look over to see somebody from tv a couple feet away looking back at me . He was a pretty cool guy actually. I didn't say anything about the show, just talked to him like any other shooter at the next bench which I had a feeling he appreciated since the rest of the range was more or less staring at him and muttering amongst themselves.

There are a few black gun guys on here. Me included. But I don't know as it's something we "go wild over". Hell, we don't even have a black rifle forum. So I'm a bit confused.

Lots of casters on here. Can't get much more old timey than that. Quite a few vintage military rifles talked about on here too. ML guys too.

I don't necessarily think that it's the wrong forum to ask the question either. I didn't even know there were lever gun matches out there except for SASS events. Sounds like fun to me.

Here are two "regional" matches you may not know about.
The Oklahoma Classis - north of Oklahoma City - June 28& 29 - filling up fast.
The Pa. State match, August 16 7 17.
Entry links on Steelchickens.

I'll post more as I learn about them.

Rockydog - you could shoot a Mossberg "Black" lever gun - and this is nothing at all like SASS events. This is silhouette shooting with a lever gun, open sights. Three different matches: .22, pistol cartridge and 30-30-ish long range targets.

Don't know what to tell you. The thread had 1721 views..... Looks like it was a pretty good audience just not enough matches to draw a crowd. RD
