Drawn with the Sword-Oxford University Press...1986

Very well written a collection of monographs reflecting upon the Civil War. Gives lots of interesting thoughts on the implications of the Civil War. This is NOT a battle book.

Was lots of 'why' the south lost, why the north won, how could the outcome been changed, etc

The second from the last essay is great on the Lincoln strategy of managing the war.

253 pages, in paper, available on-line used.
