"In the Marine Corps, your buddy is not only your classmate or fellow officer, but he is also the Marine under your command. If you don't prepare yourself to properly train him, lead him, and support him on the battlefield, then you're going to let him down. That is unforgivable in the Marine Corps."

DM I alway enjoy your "QUOTES" posts. They alway remind me of the amazing history and plights of our American fighting Men. We need to be reminded. I frequently share these quotes with my kids, grandkids and friends.

This one, "A Marine on duty has no friends." Reminds me of a time in 1968 or 69 in Olongapo PI. When a Marine standing guard was a friend. He called for support, thus saving me and my buddy from some locals who were harassing us. Of course we were just a little to drunk to appreciate that we were out numbered and about to get our a$$es kicked.

Thank You DM.

I remember Olongapo. Was there in 1962. We found a Mexican restaurant at the end of the street, called "Papagayo". Fair imitation. Drank lots of San Miguel beer. I was with 3/9, we were the "Float Batallion" at the time.

Olongapo was an eye opening event for this young naive sailor. At that time chow wasn't as interesting as the "education" discovered in the various establishments.
