Tell the ladies that if the deer don't go their jobs will. Replace them with a couple of rednecks and tell them they can hunt deer on their breaks and lunch hours. Deer will be gone inside of two weeks.

I worked with a lady who was a rabid anti-hunter. She always made snide comments around me because she knew I was a hunter. In her mind all hunters were slobs, trespassers, and drunks that enjoyed killing. Well one day she's really nice to me and she starts telling me about her mom's place. She lived in a log home in the woods. She asked me if I ever squirrel hunted. Next thing you know it turns out her mom has a squirrel problem and wants someone to shoot them for her. They're eating her log home and her bird feeders. I told her I wouldn't do it. I live in the Ozarks, all I have to do to squirrel hunt is go outside. I told her if she wanted them killed she'd have to do it and if she did she'd have to eat them because it wasn't right to just kill an animal you didn't like. She never said another word to me the rest of the time I worked there and there was much rejoicing on my part.

Rabbits are another nurseryman's nightmare. I have a buddy who traps a couple hundred a year off of about 20 acres of nursery land surrounded by brushy timber and farmland. Darn near a full time job in itself. None get thrown away.

He has a big customer appreciation dinner every year. He'll serve 150 people. The most popular item on the menu? Breaded boneless rabbit filets steamed in peach brandy. At least 2 Nesco Roasters full are served. Second most popular? Venison, in several forms, harvested from the nursery. RD

Well, the motor oil, i don't think that would work, but my dad taught me to pour used motor oil around the foundation of the house to keep out bugs.

I went ahead and ordered the long range shotgun rounds from Lightfield today.  That should keep them out, and hone my skills.

We just put in the capital expense budget to get our deer fence in February, yeaahhhh!

Until then, non-lethal on deer, lethal on dillos, opossum, coons, and squirrels.

So that means I may have to carry 3 firearms, Shotgun with deer rounds, shotgun with lead for the D's O's and C's and the 22 for the squirrels,  funny!!!

Well, I have a range report.

I got in 10 boxes of the extended range non-lethals and they are MUCH lighter overall as compared to a regular round, expected,,, but weird just handling them at that light weight.

A little slip of paper was photo copied, cut out and put in the box warning you to not shoot people for fun with them.  (Which made me think of popping on the paintball masks and using these as the weapons of choice on the paintball field (private field).  Can you image everyone running around with shotguns playing paint ball, funny!)  It also said to make sure the barrel is clear after every round fired.

Upon acquiring my target on 2 separate occasions so far, the rounds have a lot less kick.  I'd say IF there is any powder in the round at all it is very little.

The deer,,, the first target was at 60 yards.  Seconds before I took the shot an employee came out of one our buildings behind me, causing the deer to turn and face me reducing my target size.  I am sure I missed this lady by at least 3 or 4 feet but the sound of the round caused her/him to snort and run.

The second was at 25 yards, yes, I can get that close by strategically using concealment.  I got my shot off and as soon as I did both deer in this case bolted.

The problem.  I know I hit the one in the side as there is no way I could miss at that shot distance but you don't know if they bolt from the hit or just the sound of the round ($3.50 each) being fired.

Regardless, it was still fun and skill improving stalking and getting a shot off.

The deer at our gun club are not hunted. They don't even raise their head up at the sound of a shot. We have lighted fields and at night they will browse their way out into the trap fields while we're shooting trap. The only time they react is if clay fragments hit them and they just shake them off like a wet dog.
