As most may have noticed I'm not around much anymore. Mostly because I'm writing and pretending to stay busy elsewhere. Mostly writing though.

But one of the things I have came across is the Prepper Survival activities that I can't say I laugh at but certainly shake my head at. It seems as time goes on, the more expensive and certainly fancy a lot of the basics have become.

So I started a Blog back in January on how to outfit a Bug-Out Bag on a budget.

https://sgtmortar.wordpress.com/2015/01/17/bug-out-on-a-budget/

I made my 9th post today...hope it helps someone.

Now for those who have made the mistake to read some of my earlier posts on the subject, you will see a repeat of a couple posts. Read them again or bypass them if need be.

I'm trying to make at least one post each weekend and have already scripted out next weekends post.

Once again, I hope this helps ....

Mortis AKA Sgt Mortar.

I've been seriously studying a bug out program. This is the best I've found so far.

Mortis, Looking good!! I use the fire starters myself for my fireplace. I take a box of them and run them across my table saw and cut into Ice cube size pieces. One on each end of the fire gets it going in a heart beat. A box will run beyond an entire heating season. RD

Ed....

To be honest one of the reasons for not being around is that I feel just about every subject on the boards are covered well enough without my input. No need for me to further clog up a thread when our great cast and crew are answering the questions.

Mortis..

Mortis, But...but we all miss your bashful personality and gentle wit. :sofa:

You could stop by a bit more often. Always appreciate your perspective. RD

RD...

I'll try to make an effort to stop by more often and see if I can find a way to express myself in a more outgoing manner....

Yeller,

The Pre-1984 Boy Scout Field Book is IMHO the best survival book ever written....

The new book has become too ecology correct and has many great techniques removed for 'green' projects.

Very good post. Never really thought about small fires. I'm sold now.

BTW, I mistook the subject of your post, "Cooking with out gas". Thought this was going to be a post about recipes for beanless chili or corned beef sans cabbage. :troll:

Somewhere in my junk is my old BSA manual, circa mid sixties. Be nice to find it again.
Last time I saw it was about 15yrs ago, and you are correct; lots more relevant info then than now.
