G'day All,

I found this site when searching the www for information on the .22BR cartridge which had piqued my interest - I didn't know they existed & I've never seen or heard of one here in Australia. Maybe I should get out more! I'm always amazed at how much wisdom, knowledge and experience members of these on-line communities are willing to share, so I've happily joined up. I'm also a member of Cast Boolits, Beartooth Bullets, Loadswap. etc..

I currently reload:

1. .303 British for my Lee Enfield Mk5 "jungle" carbine using either my Lee hand-loading kit in the field or my Lee full size dies in my Lee Classic press on the bench;

2. blanks for my 12 gauge Powerhead using my Lee Load-All press in 12 Gauge [waterproofing them is tough but necessary as their use is underwater when spear-fishing with my Undersee Bazooka speargun and in need of damaging / scaring away a shark with the gasses!], and

I will shortly be reloading for my 1871 .577 Mark III Snider-Enfield bought at a reasonable price sight unseen from an on-line gun auction and in ignorance of the job ahead of me before I could shoot it!:

3. After months of looking - Lee didn't have any current stocks - I found some brand new Lee .577 Snider dies on an Australian Gunsales website at a remarkably low price and snaffled them up, so I've just started to make up some brass for it in my Lee Classic press. Shortening 24 gauge Magtech brass shotshells to 2", annealing the neck and die forming them has taught me many new skills! Not least patience and an ability to throw away a crumpled $3 case with a shrug!

My very good local gunsmith, after cleaning up the Snider and rating it safe to shoot subject to an over-charge proof firing, told me, notwithstanding the good condition of the bore, that I need .590" bullets to engage with the rifling lands and get any pressure behind the slug.

Needless to say, it took some time to find anyone who would make me up a bullet casting mould in that diameter and appropriate weight. It couldn't be done here Down Under no matter how hard I tried, and apparently not easily in your neck of the woods either. But after months of searching / e-mailing / etc., I managed to nail down Buffalo Arms in the USA to make and sell me a beautiful mould for a 450 grain hollow base .590" Minnie ball.

Whoo! Hoo! I'm looking forward to sending that weight down-range at 1,300 fps and a staggering 1,689 ft/pds of energy! Then at the only large game in Australia; water buffalo, camel, wild donkeys, wild boar, wild ox and banteng - all introduced feral animals.

I also shoot a Pedersoli replica of a Gentleman's SxS 12 gauge black powder muzzle-loading shotgun I bought in 1971 [apparently based on the model W Greener [not W W!] made for the Prince Regent in the 1850's] and which I perforce reload every time I want to shoot and a 1950's Browning .22 pump action rifle for small game and tin can plinking.

So that's why I joined Handloadersbench.

Cheers!

P.S. I also hunt with an R A Ekins 90 lb draw crossbow I acquired in England in 1969, but don't hold that against me!:shameon:

P.P.S. This is possibly NOT the forum to put this response to the request to explain why I joined, but smart as I think I am, I couldn't find a message "window" on that request page!

I've long since had an interest in reloading but never have jumped into it. I recently bought a few nice heavy barreled rifles and would like to start loading some rounds for them as well as some revolver loads. I had questions on equipment and figured this was a good site to ask such.

I can't start a thread yet, not sure if I have to reply so many time before I can do so?

I found this site looking for different loads and glad I did, best accident yet. So far this is the most informative site I have seen. I been reloading since 1967 and casting my own bullets. Used to be very rial up here but as time goes on things change. I had to retierd from Law Enforcement due to a very serious heart attack. Now I am bored to death. Hard to go from 200mph to 5 mph. I spend my time reloading and bench shooting but no to NOBAMA shooting targets is getting hard. Hope to be able to help anyone, hope we all talk soon.

Come to think of it--I found this place looking for info also. Was well pleased with the personnel, knowledge level, and friendly acceptance. Made me feel like I had found "family" so I stayed around. Kind of like feeding a stray a biscuit--lol. Glad all you folks found the bench and please know that each of you are appreciated. No big "I"s or little "U"s here--just folks that love to shoot/load and do a bit of BS'ing in between times--lol.

i believe so , many also recommend using google and typing the desired search and then adding " handloadersbench " before or after the item being searched for

thank you for the welcome post. my late uncle used to reload.
in the rear of his house he turned it into a work shop and had equipment to load just about any caliber you could think of. i use to visit and spendtime there watching as a kid and thought it was the coolest thing. as i got older and into firearms, i always had the itch to get into reloading.

anyway lately i've really had the itch to get into loading
and now it's a question of what to get to get myself started.
main rreason i looked around for a forum such as this. make some friends who enjoy the art of reloading and for LOTS of information...

Randy, there are about a dozen reloaders within ten miles and quadruple that within 20. Beating them to WWs is getting harder--lol. Local gun shop owner is a reloader and long distance shooter so he has been a boon as far as components during the crunch. Have gotten several calls when his shipments came in. Nothing like friends with powder/primers--lol.
