I just saw a message yesterday and according to the date it's been in my in box for almost 90 days from 3/30/16, I think. I come here almost everyday and haven't see in that time.
Of course, this stuff is always easier than people make it sound, but changing the color of the number of messages or something like that would help out people that look at everything like a list.
I'm sure they know that they that can add a red style or something similar to the hand loaders bench's style_sheet.css and a class name to the number for that style when displayed.
Just and idea

While I have missed for day or two, it does change from "no new messages" to moving "# new messages" and e-mail notification is sent. It's most often the motion, that catches my eye.

It seems to jump out for me. But I have no friends so I don't even get junk mail at home!
