That's blasphemy on a site like this. It's a good thing my throwing arm has seen it's better days, otherwise we'd have use a good old fashioned stoning.

It's a shame all that stuff marked ".45 Long Colt" is all mis-marked, since there is not, and never has been, a "Long" in ".45 Colt"'s name.

Apparently it's preferable to butcher up the name of .45 Colt than it is to call the other one ".45 Smith & Wesson" or ".45 Schofield".

.45 S&W or .45 Schofield (same)
.45 Colt
.45 Auto (it isn't ".45 ACP" either, that is actually the gun, the M1911 O-frame Colt.)

This being a shooting forum though... here's a diffrernt one:

I sometimes wish my Great uncle Willian "Duke" Dye was still alive. He was an old time railroad cop and until he was told to go to a double action revolver, carried a 4.75" Peacemaker. I distinctly remember him showing me that revolver, nickel plated with pearl stocks. (I think if George Patton called him a New Orleans pimp, Patton would have ended up with a long hospital stay.) He showed me some of his ammo boxes from companies now long deficit and some were labeled ".45 Long Colt." Some of that ammo was still in blackpowder loads.
I believe Duke was the Oklahoma railroad cop that Elmer Keith mentioned in SIXGUNS as when he transition the the Colt he went to an S&W Triple Lock in .44 Spl. and ordered handloads from Keith. Duke sadly passed away when I was about 12 years old. I was supposed to inherit that old .45 Colt but somehow no one could find where it was supposed to be. That old boy led a pretty colorful life as a lawman and I'm sure he had a few shoot outs. I sure do wish he's put his memoirs down before he passed as there was probably a lot of history there.
