Burned up my meat grinder over the weekend doing about 80lbs of meat. I needed to upgrade to a commercial grade anyway and have looked around a bit on the internet.
I was wondering what brand's you guys are using in the 1-HP or larger type of machines and are you satisfied with it.  (does it do as advertised)

I have the perfect solution.    First, go here

http://www.tndeer.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=30&t=269216&p=3541889#p3541889

Then this is the link to the grinder and yes they still have it

I own one.  It works good.  No, it works great.  It is noisy.  Big deal-wear your shooting range earmuffs.  Get a baby bottle brush you'll need it.

You will not regret this purchase.

Life's too short to jack around.

I have this:

http://www.cabelas.com/product/home-cabin/food-processing/food-grinders|/pc/104798880/c/104723280/sc/104364180/cabela-s-commercial-grade-3-4-hp-electric-grinder/713906.uts?destination=%2Fcatalog%2Fbrowse%2F_%2FN-1101293

and along with over 1000 others give it a 5 star rating. Grinds chunk meat faster than you can feed it.

I think this is the one one of my deer camp guys have. I've watched them grind 40 lbs at a setting and they do this several times a year. I know they have told me it is the largest one Cabelas sells and they like it a lot.

Just purchased a Cabelas 1/2 HP and it works very well. Unless you are doing extremely large amounts of meat the 1/2 HP is adequate and saves some bucks for other purchases. We did around 200 pounds and it never missed a beat.

You might want to have a chat with your local butcher, and maybe some non locals, too.  See what they are using, could be some useful info to tap.

Woodsman, I see you have already have the beginnings of the grinder attachment illness. I have had that grinder for over two years now and adding the extras is so addictive. I didn't need the mixer but its here this year LOL... The jerky slicer is what you want, even if you are not a jerky fan. The best way to slice meat for stir frying or fajitas there is. I slice and vacuum seal enough of it make life so simple. And of course one thing leads to another, I see a new smoker on the horizon up there. It took me about three batches of sausage to tell the wife we needed a bigger smoker if we were going to keep this up. So now it's here and have one I use for daily cooking. Yes, it's are not just for smoking anymore. I use it like the oven during the summer months when "it's to hot to use the oven, if you want that, do it outside". So now it seems normal to us.

Man the brutal truth comes out!,You busted me Joe, Its confession time.
I've been looking at gas & wood pellet smokers now for several months.
Haven't made my mind up yet but it'll probably have to wait till Father's Day or birthday

When i do get the new smoker I'll save my electric smoker for the fish.

If you have not got the meat mixer yet think about this.

5 gallon bucket , 1/2" drill , paint or mud mixing  paddle  to mix the meat in the bucket.

Get the paddle for less than 20 bucks from the local hardware store.
I would bet you have the rest of the stuff.

My friend uses that set up to mix his ground meat.
