As I mentioned above, quite some time back, I would pick almost any aerosol product for defense over "wasp freeze" When you get down to it, I won't even use it on wasps! Paper wasps, which is what most people see and use it on, are very beneficial, doing one Hell of a control job on caterpillars of almost every species. I leave them alone, unless they are in an area where people will be moving on a regular basis. If you DO need to use it, hit the nest and insects at day break or after dark, when everybody is on the nest. If foragers are out during the day, the colony tends to rebuild in the same spot due to the pheromones deposited there...it's home! If you do need to treat them during the day, I'd suggest a neo-nycotinyl based product. It kills slowly and doesn't repel some to come back later and rebuild.

all i can say and know about wasp spray, is some years back i went through a good ten cans of it. yes they drop mid flight. and all the "little" nests all around my place. i killed them then one day the different looking wasp came around. buzzed all the places the nests were at, left and never saw another wasp.
on humans might as well spray water on them.

Wasp spray. One of the dumbest ideas EVER for self defense.

You got that right PM. Love the stuff for small, flying, stinging pests. But for the two legged variety, to paraphrase the Handloaders Bench slogan; I deal in lead friend...

The red wasp here in east Texas are mean as all get out but I leave them alone if I can for their good out weights the bad. Now with that said what I can tell you is if someone comes into our home uninvited or forceful they will wish it was bug spray they got shot with. Seen six cops trying to hold down a dude high on PCP and they couldn't do it so to me wasp spray is out. Wife said if they come in to steal or hurt us we should return the favor by getting them ready for that black zipper bag.

I find the wasps themselves are a better defensive tool than the spray. The hard part is keeping them oriented down range at all times.

If you live in parts of the country where it gets hot you want to be careful about leaving aerosol cans inside your vehicle. A high school girl did that here last summer. She left a can of hair spray on her dash and went inside the mall. The can erupted and blew out her windshield.
