TG and Tas.

TwoBeards is pretty much right on the money with the carbs thing. You must watch your carb intake but don't overdo it either.  Carbs are a important part of your bodys system so keep everything balanced.  As far as the not loosing weight right now well it sounds like your body has hit a plateau.

You have to remember that when you start a diet whether it's a fad or a lifestyle change your body takes the intial reduction of calorie intake by burning the immediate spare fat it has at hand.  This can also be some water lose but while you are dieting it is very important to remain hydrated.  First off by drinking more water you fee full faster and it staves off hunger longer.  Secondly it flushes the system which is extremely important... This bears repeating. Drink water lots of it.

Once your system starts to adjust to the new diet it will slow it's metabolism which is why your excersice is so important. At this point excersice will gear your metabolism back up and then you start to use the stored fats and sugars.

You have to keep your body balanced. If you loose too much weight too fast it can also create problems.  The last I was told from a Doctor  was about 2 to 3 pounds a week was what he wanted his patients to take off.

Watch your lower back closely with the rest of it running a close second.  The reason for this is that when you do start loosing weight you will tend to overdo things which gets you in trouble.  Not only that but when you are taking weight off you body has to readjust itself, this takes some time.  So go slow and listen to your body.

   Take care Be safe Poacher.

Exercise is the key to a healthy body and eating right. Sugar intake is very hard to metabolize when you get older . Soft drinks are the most abused form of sugar with one 12 oz coke having 38 grams of sugar. Zocor is the best  cholesterol reducer,  with the least side effects. Diets without exercise will cause you to gain weight because your metabolic rate decreases to your food intake and when you stop the diet and starting eating more you gain weight because of the slow metabolic rate that has decreased because of the diet, so if you diet you must exercise to keep the metabolic rate up. You will by the law of nature gain some weight as you get older, once you stop going up you start going out.:lol:This is the price you pay for living to long. By the way welcome to old age Timber. It does get worst as time takes it toll.:lol: Now you are starting to know why the old men sit and the young ones walk to much and that is why the old men kill more deer than the younger guys.  The hills get steeper every year.

Hey TG and Tas.

I was wondering how the diets were going and what you guys were still doing for excersice.?  I will admit that with the coming of Christmas and all the hectic crap that comes along I neglected my Nordic Track somthing awful. Yes I put a pound or two back on but now I'm getting back on track.. that and it's a helluva stress reducer.

   Take care Be safe Poacher.

i imagine i fell from grace a LITTLE bit during the holidays. it is amazing how many people will try to ge you to "jsut try it," even when it's clear that you "don't need it!"

all-in-all, i think i am following things pretty well. i haven't stepped on a scale, but i am keeping with the program and if i eat something i am not supposed to, i make sure that is pretty much ALL i eat for the day. i haven't touched a pop or kool-aid in so long, i forgot what they taste like, and i get full a lot sooner than i used to.

I guess I will weigh in on this thread, no pun intended, lol. I am at 44 in the waist, and used to be a 32. My goal is to get to a 32 again, so the excercise will begin, as will a return to healthy eating habits. I eat out a lot due to my schedule, but I will be changing that to either eating at home, or taking my lunch with me to work.

Gene, I had a Bowflex, and loved it, but sold it when I was still living in the apartment. I kick myself because it was an awesome piece of equipment. I have the room in my house now, but they are expensive as hell!!  I may still pony up for one, but for approximately $600 I can get a good bent with lat tower, etc, and a 300 lbs olympic weight set so I may just go that route, and set the garage up as a gym.

Getting older is not bad, it is getting old and out of shape that sucks, lol.

I am on the Shady side of 65 sooooooooooo I can tell you that it is a whole lot easier to put weight on than take it off.
Cholesterol is often relate to your stress level as well as your diet. Have a dear friend of mine who has fought to control her cholesterol for 20 years--she recently retired and it had dropped more than 30 points-her Doctor is please as is she.

Good luck,
Jim

My cholesterol was getting up there and my doc wanted to nip it in the bud before it got too high. Was just over 200. My doctor told me to shop the walls (lean meat, veggies etc.) and stay out of the processed foods in a box and can in the aisles. Also got hold of some red yeast rice pills, really cheap actually. Cholesterol went down over 55 points in 6 months.

1. Eat a big breakfast and a small supper.

2. Eat oatmeal for breakfast or lunch at least 4 times a week if not every day. Add a teaspoon of cinnamon to your oatmeal.

3. Add a 1/4 teaspoon of cayenne pepper to your first cup of coffee or tea in the morning.

I have a whole bunch more of these kind of suggestions if I can find my notes. One very important thing, if your doctor starts talking about blood pressure medication you need to get more serious about weight control, exercise, and stress relief. Most blood pressure medications are such that once you start taking them it is very hard to stop. Also most of them cause significant weight gain unless you cut your intake in half. Not all doctors know that and some that do, don't seem to care.
