nosler has a reloading archive section that covers many questions newbies will encounter ( of the standard variety at least ) basic sections on most aspects of the fundamentals of reloading anyways , tho i believe every reloader should have several manuals ( especially for the data ) i've found this offering to worthy of reading ( especially for the newer folks to reloading , having stated all that - happy reading ( and safe reloading ! )

Ill take all the information I can get.
All of it can and will end up being useful when your a reloader. Not like I have to explain that to anyone here or I wouldn't have ended up with about 7-9 manuals...

Thank you for the information Fryboy. This is great for a newbe like me. It lets me learn the basic equipment requirements and terms without the need of asking ton of elementary questions. Much appreciated.

Sorry to chime in with a question on this thread guys. I can't start my own new topics here just yet.

Can anyone tell me if it's possible to use load data for another bullet of the same weight? I've been trying for the last couple hours to find load data for .40 S&W 180grn hard cast using IMR-PB powder. I can find lots of data for Hornady XTP, Barnes and other jacketed bullets, but nothing specifically for hard cast. I was thinking of starting with the minimum charge I could find (throwing out the 3.9 at the very bottom) and starting at 4.0grn of IMR-PB. This should get 850 fps and about 26,500 psi. Has anyone else done this?

Thanks for any help and input.

for the most part we're not to anal about thread drift but i do have to suggest that in everything in life patience often pays off ( or as the sign that hangs up at work states " if you want it yesterday you MUST be willing to pay tomorrow's prices " [shrugz] )

in common projectiles ( ie; cup and core ) one can start with the data for the same weight and work up safely , the .40 is one of a very few cartridges that are termed "hi-intensity" cartridges , these so termed are much more susceptible to powder increases and especially projectile seating depths , i'd suggest making the cartridge as long as the mag and chamber will allow and as always start low and work up , having stated all that allow me to suggest that every powder manufacturer list some data , true it maybe somewhat limited but ... it's free , in this case hodgdon
http://www.hodgdon.com/

for the most part cast data and plated use the same data and hodgdon does list the 180 with PB ( albeit plated aka berry's bullets ) with a start charge of 4.7 start and 5.1 max , oddly enough it's more than the start charge for genuine cup and core copper jacketed bullets ( hard cast has less friction in the bore ) ...
