Pecos, also known as Ken Short passed onto the next adventure on 20 January, 2013.  He is survived by his Wife, a son, two daughters, mother and 6 grandchildren.  He was preceded in death by his Father, Brother and a daughter.

Ken served 21 years in the U.S. Army. Incuding 3 back-to-back tours in Viet Nam.  His last tour in Nam was with the 5th Special Forces.

Gang of 5 minus 1.......

This is from left to right, DirtyDingus, Myself, Pecos and Poacher.  The missing person is Camp45.

We all met on the original Shooter.Com website/chatroom starting in late 2000.  The first every shoot was called the Oklahoma Shoot-Out and held at Happy Hollow Gun Range here in Creek County, Oklahoma.

In 2004, it was moved to Texas due to the access to several more pistol ranges , plus the ability to reach out to 1000 yards.  Happy Hollow was only a 200 yard limit.

It has never had a name other then "The Shoot" since moving to Texas.  That will change soon.

Pecos at the April 2012 shoot with his pride and  joy.... a 6.5-06 Ackley built on a Winchester 70 Action.

We all use to kid him about his mustache.  Claimed it had a life of it's own and even if Pecos didn't thump ya.... beware the mustache!!

Over time I will add tales and such to this thread about knowing Pecos.  As I certainly hope all that knew him will do.

Vaya Con Dios My Brother.....

The following is the post I made originally announcing Peocs' passing....

It is copied from the Veterans Forum wihtout editing.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
My Friend..... My Brother... My Leaning Post when times were bad....
SFC Ken "Pecos" Short died quietly in his sleep at 0727 this morning, after fighting his ass off against cancer.
He was attended by his family. A Son who is a Major with the Border Patrol. And a daughter who is a Master Sergeant in the U.S. Army. His Wife, Mother, and another daughter were in attendance, plus his Grandchildren.
Pecos was what I considered the A-Typical West Texas Cowboy. Honest to a fault..... Stubborn as hell..... And his word just wasn't his bond, it was everything.
He was a warrior. Did three (3) back-to-back tours in VietNam. Served all over the world and spoke several languages cause of those tours.
Whenever our Shoots were happening, I'd go down to his place a day early. We'd set out in his shop, and murder a bottle of single malt and he'd tolerate me blowing off any pent up anger. Then he'd just smile and tell me....
I understand.... now shut up and soldier.
During one of those sessions, he told me he had lost his brother several years back...... but he'd found himself a new one. And such was our relationship.
Our first face to face meeting was a bit of a shock for him. He was expecting a typical retired Marine... squared away and high and tight. What he got was a sloppy sob, with a scraggy beard, and ear ring and a ponytail half way down my back.
He accepted me as I was. And since we were going to my local range to shoot...he put me too the test.
Outside of a couple Marine snipers I have known, Pecos was the best rifleman I've every had the pleasure of shooting with or against. When he competed, it was for fun, not fame.
He told me one time that if I would just take shooting a bit more serious, I could be as good as all the big name shooters. I told him I only take shooting seriously when someone is shooting back.
He just cocked his head....grinned and walked away.
His character was such, that several years ago, I had left my Browning Micro-Medallion (7mm-08) with him so Jon Trammel could do a trigger job, and some other stuff to it.
Pecos took it along with his 6.5-06 AI to a rifle match to test it once he reworked the load data I had given him. After he completed shooting, he took both rifles and locked them in the back seat of his car. Trunk on that Ford was too small for hardcases.n The went bakc up on the line to watch the rest of the match.
When he went back to the car to leave, someone had busted out the back seat door window and stole both rifles.
NOW.... instead of calling me.... he went out... bought another Browning... and a Burris FullField Scope... and had Jon twik it.
THEN he called me.
Without going into a loger tale.... I actually had less then $125.00 tied up in that rifle & scope. And if he had called me, I would have told him to forget about replacing it.... we'd worry about that another day.
But his integrity was asw it was.....and nearly a $1000.00 later I have another Browning.
So.... that April, I gave him a Marlin 1895 45-70 with Ballard Rifling as replacement to some of the funds he had spent on mine.
Boy, did that start a tit-for-tat exchange over the next couple years.
I've said all I can about my Brother today. And there is oh so much to be said about him.
Vaya Con Dios, Pecos.
I'm glad you reposted this. It helps to complete the picture of a good man. More than that, of course. But Good Man covers a lot of ground.
I would like to thank everyone, especially Mortis, for their posts regarding Pecos (Kenneth Short), my Father.
I would like to express grattitude on behalf of my entire family.
I miss my Father dearly, as I currently pack up and move around much of his belongings, but rest assured his 6.5 x .06 AI and .45-70 (that he somehow horn swaggled Mortis o"Uncle Mike" out of) will continue to drop deer, hogs and targets :).
Thanks to all.  I was a member here with Poacher, Mortis, Pecos, Dingus and several others back when the forum was on the old mIRC program.  Life got in the way for awhile but I am back now.
Again thanks to all.
Vaya Con Dios Daddy.
Mort,
Pecos & Son Christmas 2012 on the roof of the Drury Hotel on the River Walk in San Antonio, TX.  We were up there "After Hours" as the roof top desk/pool area closes at 2200.  We were having a little wind and a few beers.
We were discussing the upcoming shoot in Breckenridge, TX.  He will still be with us in Spirit
