I'm wanting to upgrade front rest, but don't want to spend $500. I'm not a 1/4" shooter, but most often stay below 1/2", with 3s when I'm on.

Any thoughts or experience with this rest would be appreciated. Would I regret purchase and be better off waiting for Sinclair, at three times the price?

I've used (and continue to use) Caldwell products, and they have never let me down.  I've owned a Caldwell front rest in the past (don't recall the name of it...maybe "The Rock Junior), and I thought it was great.  I did replace the rest it came with using a "Protektor" leather bag, but that was it.

Robert, I have a rock br, it is a good rest. But I did need to buy a few different pad/ bags to fit the different rifles, I think it came with 2. I have a protektor leather pad on it now. The adjustments on the rest are good and can be tightened/set to hold on target. IMO well worth the $$.

Sinclair has the heavy duty varmint on sale and a lightweight for $159.
I use a Hart similar to Sinclair heavy duty varmint but it is pricey. Excellent rest.

The heavy varmint with windage top, was what I was comparing it to. With current sale and coupon, I paid much less than half shipped, from Midway and Sinclair was out of stock.

I guess time will tell, if I should've waited.

I am sure the Caldwell will serve you well.
There is a one to two pound difference between the Sinclair and the Caldwell.

Bear asked if Sinclair is owned operated by Brownells. Answer, yes.

I've ordered from Brownells, for a number of years. What's nice is you can order some items from Sinclair, Brownells, or Police Store and they all end up in same cart. You pay one shipping charge, even if item is only available at sister store and item is same price under the different banners.

I use the Sinclair Varmint rest normally with the Shadetree joystick top with Edgewood bags. I have several Sinclair tops equipped with different bags. It's a very good set-up. I don't want my groups handicapped by a lesser quality rest. Yes, it was kind of pricey, but it was 1/2 the price of a Farley rest. Some rifle competitors are paying $2,000. for the top of the line rests. Just like rifles and scopes, if you want good quality you have to pay for it.

I have one.

I use it.

It is strong and stout.

It is heavy.

It will last a life time.

But.

It does not do fine adjustments.

You acquire your aim point by squeezing the rear sand bags.

Not sure if it's too late to enter this thread, but I just got a Grizzly front rest and am very happy with it. Here's a link - http://www.grizzly.com/products/BE1006

It is heavy and well made and only about $200.

Should be a good rest. Bald Eagle has made good stuff for a long time. Enjoy.

Robert I shoot 300-600 yard against myself and I used the Caldwell. I recently bought a baldeagle cable windage replaced the bags with custom made ones and tested at 200 it was the best 200 I have spent. Look at bullets. Com they have a sale

I used it a few times since I got it.

The bad first
The supplied bags, are nearly worthless.
There is some backlash, in fine adjustment threads, much less than old rest though. Tightening down "stop" took most out.
Forend stop is not adjustable for length.

What I like
The adjustment wheel, is much smoother than expected, I like it better than "spoke" type so far.
Protector bags fit.
Foot print is narrower, which allows easier placement on bench.
Much heavier and stabile than old one.
Windage adjust on top, much easier than resetting position, for changes. Very little backlash, adjustable tension, not sure if cable would've been handier or not.

I'm not sure BR "Competition" rest is accurate description, I would say it's very good "Recreational" front rest, certainly good "enough" for varmint rest and vast improvement over "Rock" JR. It took off about a tenth on average, which I'm pleased with it. When I get good enough, hundredths matter, I'll upgrade to better one.
