Good for her....

I've served with Marines who came from other countries. Some joined for a quicker path to citizenship, and a couple never applied, just maintained their native citizenship, BUT they were Marines first and foremost.

I served with a lot of Katusas who were out for the shorter path to citizenship.

An honorable discharge doesn't pay off towards citizenship the way it used to, (it used to be a significant help) and that's a shame.

There isn't a more sincere demonstration of commitment to the U.S., nor a demonstration more worthy of citizenship, in my book.

You get the honorable, the citizenship should come with it, automatically, as far as I'm concerned.

I was a recruiter in El Paso. Several times a month I would receive phone calls from guys from Juarez that wanted to join the Corps. Unfortunately they did not residency in the US, so we could not accept.
And this was in 1973-1974 and we were only recruiting around 4 guys a month.

"There were a lot of [American] military there — Army, Navy — but the Marines were different.

The Marines, she recalled, always acted more polite, friendly and professional than others — and they were more fit."

Her childhood observations of Marines matches my opinion about them. They just stand TALL.
