You know that thing in your head that tells you to keep your mouth shut?

Apparently I don't have one of those.

I have one, but it doesn't work very well, or very reliably.

At some moments it works good, then it'll go on the fritz and just quit with no warning.
Must have a Windows 9X operating system.

I lost that function in the early 70's in high school and lost it and about that same time the safety on my reaction button got broke and the button got stuck. As a result I could fly off the handle and do something we (myself and the other person) would regret! I may have been a small wimp looking 4 eyed thing back then, But several found out that could be a bad thing to under estimate!

I'm lucky mine works partially, I like my job.

A bit of background, I work in Wichita Kansas, home of Wichita State University, whose mascot, is the Wu-Shock.
Wu-s explanatory enough,,, the mascot looks like a shock of wheat (a bundle from a century ago, in the field awaiting the cart to come gather them all up (pre-combine machinery days).

A couple years back, a female co-worker who hails long ago from Bolivia whom I consider "hazardous" if you say the wrong thing asked me "What is a shocker?" (I had not been listening but I had noticed shortly prior she and someone else had been discussing college things)

For that 5-minute span, that thing was working, and I explained the wheat-stalk-harvest-bundle mascot thing to her.

Several other co-workers are to this day both amazed and impressed at my 'restraint' that morning, because they know where my mind went.

I think my button is getting well worn too.

The older I get the less common sense seems to prevail in the world around me. I guess common sense must be waning in me too, as I am not bashful in pointing out to other people that they don't have any. Doesn't make me any new friends but I do have the common sense not to let that bother me. RD

RD, 33 years in EMS as a professional Paramedic (Retired) and 6 years in the auto parts business I have come to realize that "common sense" is a very uncommon flower in many a garden!

Careful there Whippersnapper! Having one crotchety old fart on your case is one thing. Having a bunch of them is quite another. Kind of like death by a thousand cuts.

Grew up in Barber Co. Most folks pretty much said what they thought. Politely but honest.

I am, slowly but surely, deliberately losing my temper with dimwits to the point I have to walk away. I just KNOW if I open my mouth, someone is gonna jam a fist in it. I don't like pain ---
