Good morning! I sure appreciate all the welcomes!
I started reloading in the early 80s after me and my wife at the time shot for our Garands through the DCM. They cost $165
dollars apiece then. Of course mine looked like a junk parts gun while the wife got one that looked afresh arsenal rebuild . It also being a Harvester make. I went through my Garand and fiberglass bedded it and put NM sights on it. We were in a local gun club and shot the monthly Hi power matches.
I noticed the Guard members were shooting outstanding scores with their Springfield M1As. I got to shoot one and fell in love. So I got one and the Garand stayed home.
Now I have a large military rifle collection plus my pistols and shotguns. I'm an old duck hunter and reload steel waterfowl loads and trap/skeet. It makes me sad that my boys will never see the cheap reloading prices I did.

Hello bojac,
Greetings and welcome from New York. Still shooting the M1 or did you cross over to the M1A1. Both are super shooters like the A1 much better, running the 147- 150 gr through mine. Enjoy your stay with us.

I enjoyed shooting the M1 in the matches but when I got my M1A1 I switched to it. So much easier for the magazine switch. And no M1 thumb!
The area I live in now doesn't have rifle matches but my local gun club has a trap league. It also has a 100 yard shooting range where I can do some bulls eye shooting and plinking.

edit: I'm not on Facebook. Is that what the "add as friend"
tag is for? Or can I friend on the Forum?
Bob

Yep. I run surplus 147 grain through my M1A also.
I tried 168gr Sierra Matchkings for the Hi power matches but I just wasn't good enough to justify the extra cost. ha!

Welcome sir! I have a NEED for a Garand. Unfortunately, I feel completely unprepared for anything if I don't have at least 1 M1A. I found one in Supermatch configuration in a McMillan 3A stock. I probably paid a little too much for it, but I dearly love that rifle. George Gardner of GA Precision first built my M1A in 2000. I bought it in 2014. I sent it to Roland Beaver at Old Corp Weaponry for a complete overhaul. He welded a rear lug on the receiver, and bedded the stock to the action via the rear lug, among other accurizing tricks. Now I've got my eye out for a Garand.

Your M1A1 has got to be one sweet shooting rifle Magdude!
The supermatch barrel is 1 in 10" twist I believe, while my stock barrel is a 1 in 12".
